Max delivers Boredom Buster Kindles to Virginia Beach hospital
A father whose family is staying at the Baltimore Ronald McDonald House shares his appreciation for Boredom Busters.
Michael and his mom Marcie began Boredom Busters in 2004 while he was fighting a brain tumor. Michael's dad John, brother Matt and sister Jess have all contributed significantly to this project. Michael's sister-in-law Amanda and brother-in-law Jeff have also helped with Boredom Busters.
Many friends have also contributed to this project

Many friends have also contributed to this project - writing letters to sports teams asking for hats, unpacking inventory and stuffing boxes, and delivering them to hospitals.
And you: if you're reading this, you too are now a member of our team. Anyone who knew Michael soon fell in love with him. Read more about him and his Boredom Busters project on this website.
Michael was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February 2003. He spent a lot of time in hospitals over the next year, and received a shoebox with some games, a toothbrush and a baseball hat from a social worker at Johns Hopkins Hospital. We learned that the program had been discontinued, so Michael set out to replicate it.

He spent a lot of time in hospitals over the next year, and received a shoebox with some games, a toothbrush and a baseball hat from a social worker at Johns Hopkins Hospital. We learned that the program had been discontinued, so Michael set out to replicate it.
We met JJ Redick through a mutual friend while JJ was a student at Duke. JJ befriended Michael and motivated Michael to work hard and fight for his health. JJ was a wonderful friend and mentor to Michael and is simply a tremendous human being. He has helped out with our project many times over the years.

Our mission is to help kids and teens burdened with lengthy hospital stays pass the time by providing useful and fun items like phone chargers, ballcaps to cover scars, games to play with family and friends, playing cards, anti-slip socks, high quality toothbrushes, and more. It's a nice array of items that really can help a patient and their family feel better about their hospital stay.
As Michael matured, his vision for Boredom Busters also expanded. It became less about the utility of the stuff in the box, and more about connecting the patient to their families. The playing cards inevitably led to hours of Go Fish for some families, poker for others. The handheld games spawned heated competitions. Boredom Busters became a way for families to have a small dose of normalcy in the hospital where normalcy is rare.
Your support and contributions will enable us to build and deliver hundreds more Boredom Buster kits to hospitals and Ronald McDonald houses. Help us continue Michael's legacy of generous giving.
